BLM Black Artist Scholarship
We at Spruce Arts are committed to the uplifting and supporting black artists. To this end, we have created the BLM Black Artist Scholarship to provide a fully funded residency session for black artists. Though recipients will be not receive a stipend, they will not have to pay the residency session fees. Awardees will have the opportunity to have a solo exhibition and artist talk.This effort reflects Spruce Arts' commitment to black artists specifically.
FAQs
How many are available? We are currently working with donors to fund this effort. We at Spruce Arts have committed to at least two per year (donor funding or not), and we are hopeful that we can fundraise for 10 per year.
Who is eligible? Artists from the African diaspora are welcome to apply.
Why are not all people of color afforded this opportunity? We understand the struggles that people of color have had to endure. However, the extreme oppression of black communities and of black artists is significant in the United States and in the art world. We are using this effort to support black artists. If you would like to learn more about black lives and specifically anti black rhetoric in the arts, please go to this link.
How long is the residency session? We ask all recipients of this scholarship to stay for one month or more. However, we understand that you might only be available for less time. We aim to be accommodating.
